Why Order as a Set?

One Order. Two Decals. Perfect Harmony.

Ordering your boat name and hailing port lettering as a coordinated set ensures visual consistency that you simply cannot achieve when sourcing them separately. Every detail — from stroke weight to color to material — is matched by our design team before production.

Coordinated Branding

Your boat name and hailing port share the same typeface, color, and weight — creating a unified identity that speaks to craftsmanship and attention to detail.

What Makes Our Sets Stand Apart

Many boat owners order their name decal and hailing port lettering at different times or from different suppliers — and it shows. Slightly different fonts, mismatched colors, and inconsistent sizes create a patchwork look that diminishes the vessel's overall presentation.

Our combo sets are produced as a single, coordinated order. Everything is sized to traditional maritime ratios, typeset in matching fonts, and cut from the same material batch.

Placement Guide

Where & How to Apply Each Decal

Proper placement of both the boat name and hailing port lettering is essential for a polished, traditional maritime appearance. Follow these guidelines — or read our complete placement guide for step-by-step instructions.

Transom & Hull Sides

Boat Name Placement

  • 1Apply name to the center of the transom (stern), horizontally centered between the outboard edges.
  • 2Mirror the same name on both port and starboard sides of the hull, typically forward of midship.
  • 3Position the name within the lower third of the hull topside — typically 6–12 inches above the waterline.
  • 4For sailboats, name may also appear on the bow on both sides.

Transom — Below Boat Name

Hailing Port Placement

  • 1Always placed on the transom (stern), directly below the boat name.
  • 2Horizontally centered with the boat name — both should share the same centerline.
  • 3Leave 1/2" to 1" of vertical spacing between the bottom of the name and the top of the hailing port text.
  • 4Hailing port is traditionally displayed in a smaller point size — typically 50% of the name height.
Design Harmony & Sizing

Sizing Standards & Aesthetic Principles

A harmonious combo set follows proven proportions rooted in maritime tradition. Use our sizing table as a starting point, then fine-tune in the customizer for your specific hull.

Boat LengthName HeightPort HeightRecommended Ratio
Under 20 ft3"–4"1.5"–2"2:1
20–30 ft4"–6"2"–3"2:1
30–40 ft6"–9"3"–4.5"2:1
40–55 ft9"–12"4.5"–6"2:1
55 ft+12"–18"6"–9"2:1
* Letter heights refer to capital letter height (cap height). Custom sizing available — contact us for large or unconventional vessels.

The 2:1 Size Ratio

Maritime tradition dictates that the hailing port lettering should be approximately half the letter height of the boat name. This ratio creates visual hierarchy while keeping both elements clearly legible from the dock or passing vessels.

Horizontal Centering

Both the name and the hailing port text must share the same vertical centerline. A laser level or pre-cut transfer tape with center marks ensures perfect alignment — our decals come with alignment guides included.

Yacht Owners Love the Results

From classic wooden ketches to modern ocean cruisers, our coordinated combo sets have become the go-to choice for discerning boat owners who value tradition and professional finish.

"Finally found a supplier who understands that the boat name and hailing port are a visual unit, not two separate items. The font matching was spot-on, and the 2:1 size ratio was exactly what I needed. My Hinckley has never looked more distinguished at the dock."
